Our Founder and Medical Director Of National Medical Transport Has Over 35 Years Of Transportation Expertise.

National Medical Transport was founded by Dr. Michael Austin, an Osteopathic Physician with over thirty-five years experience in ground medical transportation. Dr. Austin’s first involvement with medical transportation was at the age of 16 in New Jersey. He was an active member of the Irvington Civil Defense Rescue Squad as well as the Amvets Ambulance Corps. This is where he developed his initial training and affinity for the care of sick or injured people. He later moved to the Tampa Bay, Florida area where he received his undergraduate degree from the University of South Florida. He then attended NOVA Southeastern where he received his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine. He was always interested in the care and transportation of sick or injured people, and eventually became a Board Certified Emergency Physician.

Dr. Austin was the Medical Director for the Goshen County Emergency Medical Services in Wyoming, where he developed a comprehensive plan for the transportation of sick and injured people. He later moved back to Florida as an active duty Air Force officer in the Emergency Room at MacDill Air Force Base. He was deployed to Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War, where he assisted in the set-up and operation of a mobile emergency room as well as being involved with both the ground and air transport of sick and injured people. He was also a personal physician for General H. Norman Schwarzkopf during the Gulf War.

After the Air Force Dr. Austin continued in the field of Emergency Medicine. He became involved with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team eventually becoming a Reserve Deputy. He was also involved in the transportation of people who required air transport around the U.S. as well as into the U.S. from other countries.

National Medical Transport was founded with all the previous experience that Dr. Austin obtained throughout his life and career. He recognized the need for not just standard local ground transportation, but a much more comfortable and caring manner in which to transport people long distance.
